UVA Primary Care – Stuarts Draft Family Practice is seeking a Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (FNP or PA) in Stuarts Draft, VA.

Job Description
The incumbent will assist in medical care of patients in the assigned department. The incumbent will facilitate the physician's ability to manage the physician's patient panel, provide patient appointments at an earlier date, and respond to patient medical questions in a timely manner. She/he practices independently according to established protocols and in collaboration with physicians, and delivers quality healthcare across the lifespan.
  • Attends the assigned department to assist in follow-up evaluation of patients.
  • Coordinates with physicians and nursing staff of related disciplines to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Attends interdisciplinary team meetings when possible.
  • Communicates with referring physicians and their offices regarding patient problems/progress.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries of patients and provides counseling and instruction regarding patient problems.
  • Orders medications as specified by the NP/PA license and as directed by the supervising physician.
  • Provides follow-up health maintenance care, including the appropriate adjustment of patients' medications, in accordance with established protocols or in response to specific instructions from the supervising physician.
  • Prepares and dictates summaries of patients' initial evaluations and follow-up care. Participates in appropriate continuing medical education.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries from patients. Maintains contact with patients and physicians. Communicates with referring physicians and their offices regarding patient problems.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.
  • Experience: Department- and unit-specific.
  • Licensure: License or license eligibility as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), as required specific to position.

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, and reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive). Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
