The Administrator is a senior-level, strategic business partner who shares ownership for business strategy and business value results. The Administrator is responsible for senior-level IT relationships and serves as a primary point of contact, working to converge IT and one or more lines of business or value streams. This is achieved by developing and influencing demand for capabilities and assets, in addition to ensuring that the potential business value from those capabilities and assets are recognized.

Through effective relationship management, the Administrator contributes to the IT/business partner relationship by actively partnering with business peers to determine strategic direction. They work to identify ways in which the Admin's function can support and advance business objectives. Additionally, the Admin shapes business demand into supply by partnering with appropriate IT resources to facilitate the creation of idea documents, business cases and value plans, ensuring value optimization and communication and enabling continuous improvement. The role will have primary responsibility for developing and facilitating operational priorities through UVA IT Governance.
  • Adheres to Health IT procedures and remains knowledgeable of the Health IT portfolio.
  • Coaches business leaders and enables them to articulate their function's technology needs and requirements that will advance business performance.
  • Partners with business transformation teams (change management) and the project/program/portfolio management organization (PMO).
  • Embedded in the organization's leadership team, this role has insight and understands the technology priorities of the organization. This role takes the lead in defining the details associated with IT bodies of work.
  • Partners with business leadership to plan new initiatives and evaluate proposals.
  • Measures adoption and works with business leadership to develop future roadmap and opportunities. Aligns these priorities with the system.
  • Based upon need, this role may support legacy localized technology needs until the technology is eliminated or archived.
  • Identifies and integrates business partners' long-range plans into business capability roadmaps and priorities, as appropriate.
  • Advocates for an awareness and focus on business partner strategic plans.
  • Correlates business value and priorities to planning activities and goal-setting.
  • Works with IT and business partners to detail their objectives and shepherd those objectives through the Governance process, including evaluating proposals, project efforts and progress against strategic plans and objectives.
  • Is creative and innovative with regards to knowledge and awareness of industry trends and digital advances as they relate to new opportunities and business needs. Stays abreast of UVA's technology projects and their potential to provide needed service to the organization.
  • Leads the interface between IT and the business partner to ensure that the potential business value from those efforts is captured, realized, optimized and recognized.
  • Develops a deep knowledge of the business partner's business unit and builds positive relationship development, both horizontally and vertically.
  • Ensures project and initiative progress, including consistent and effective communication. This includes managing escalation and avoiding risk.
  • Educates business partners about processes, roles and capabilities.
  • Establishes communication processes and channels across business functions.
  • Measures and communicates business value realized with the business partner on a periodic basis.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred in a technology or business Field. Master's degree must be obtained within 4 years of hire or transfer.
  • Experience: 12 years of experience in information technology management; experience in healthcare information technology preferred.
  • Licensure: None required.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
