Administrator, Ambulatory Nursing

The Administrator, Ambulatory Nursing (AAN) is accountable for organizing, leading, managing and continuously improving patient care selivery within Ambulatory Services for UVA Health (UVAH), including clinics and services of the Medical Center, UPG and School of Medicine, in partnership with other clinical leaders and respective Medical Directors, so the highest quality of care is delivered. The AAN reports to the Chief Nursing Officer UVAMC (CNO) with accountability to the UVAH Chief Ambulatory Operations Officer (CAOO) for back-office operations in the ambulatory setting. The AAN ensures the clinical enterprise works harmoniously with and supports the missions of UVAH. The AAN directly oversees programs that support the delivery of ambulatory services. As a deputy of the CNO and the CAOO, the AAN partners with Human Resources on recruitment and retention of all team members that fall under the CAOO.
  • Leads and directs the ambulatory patient care delivery system.
  • Leads Ambulatory Services Nursing activities related to advancing population health, care coordination and transitions of care. Demonstrates high level knowledge of the patient populations served and of the requirements for delivery of services.
  • Works directly with the Chief Nursing Officer on the scope and standards of practice for professional ambulatory care nursing as defined by the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN), promoting effective clinical and administrative management of increasingly complex ambulatory care RN roles and responsibilities.
  • In partnership with the Chief Nursing Officer, promotes and supports the shared governance model for nursing, maintains the principles of a Magnet® organization, and ensures alignment with Magnet requirements.
  • Actively participates in the Quality and Performance Improvement Program and implements actions to improve outcomes of care.
  • Acquires resources for functional areas.
  • Ensures development of policies, programs and evidence-based practice consistent with standards. Develops appropriate ambulatory protocols to streamline the workflows within practices to maximize safety and patient throughput.
  • Provides leadership for human resources development and management.
  • Actively promotes a healthy work environment in accordance with the organization's ASPIRE Values, in which empowerment, autonomy, collaboration and peer review are exercised.
  • Leads efforts to improve team member engagement in Ambulatory Services.
  • Maintains structures and processes to facilitate both vertical and horizontal communication within Ambulatory Services. Meets regularly with the CNO, CAOO and Ambulatory ACMOs.
  • Facilitates shared decision making with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates strong partnerships with physicians, other disciplines and leaders across departments.
  • Acts as visionary, strategic planner and change agent.
  • Ensures that strategic decisions for the clinics are in alignment with strategic plans in the Medical Center, UPG and School of Medicine.
  • Develops work plans and business cases as required to obtain support and approval for new/expanded programs.
  • Implements action to sustain or improve patient satisfaction.
  • Supports the functioning of multidisciplinary clinical groups who provide patient-centered care and clinical research. This includes collaborating with partners in the School of Medicine and in other units of the Medical Center and UPG.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies including, but not limited to, The Joint Commission and Center for Medicaid Services, including oversight of required documentation.
  • Works with Facilities and Maintenance staff to address needs of clinical areas for renovation, repair and new construction, especially those things that would affect patient and/or team member safety.
  • Ensures effective financial management with accountability for adherence to the annual budget.
  • Manages capital acquisitions of new technology.
  • Enforces compliance with UVAH and Medical Center standards and policies.
  • Supports, promotes and collaborates with UVAH leadership, physicians and team members in research and educational activities.
  • Participates in leadership activities to support the strategic plan of UVAH.
  • Fosters effective relationships with UVAH physician and organization leadership to establish a quality agenda that reaches throughout all levels of the organization.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $172,078.40 - $275,329.60 Annually

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Registered Nurse with Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Master's or Doctoral degree in business or health-related field.
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in management with progressive leadership abilities at a director level or higher. Administrative experience in ambulatory services and within a complex academic setting strongly preferred.
  • Licensure: Registered Nurse.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
